Animal Relinquishment
Second Chance Animal Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, no-kill brick and mortar animal rescue located in Norman, OK.
Please read our requirements below before submitting a request. Please submit one form per animal this allows us to keep submissions organized. Any missing information will delay your submission or may be denied. Once you have submitted this completed form and included a photo (AND VIDEO IF POSSIBLE) of the pet, we will be able to determine if we have appropriate resources to help.
At this time, our intake program averages 50-100 requests per week. If we select your animal, we will contact you as soon as we can to make arrangements to welcome them into our program. If your animal was not selected, we may not be able to return your submission emails or follow-ups due to time restraints and limited staffing. Our shelter team can only verify via phone if your submission was received and cannot process your incoming requests.
We appreciate your cooperation and ask for your patience as we navigate the needs of Oklahoma shelters.
Requirements
To follow the mission of Second Chance Animal Rescue, priority towards at-risk animals will always be made. Owner surrenders, strays and animals who are not currently at risk, will be accepted with discretion.
Cats
In order to accept cats/kittens into the Second Chance Animal Rescue program, the physical wellness and behavior of the cats/kittens must be accounted for. Second Chance Animal Rescue has not established a community cat program nor has partnered with other resources to network feral cats. All cats/kittens must have good temperaments that allow average handling with people and our vet staff. Cats/kittens do not have to be dog friendly but should, ideally, be cat friendly.
Cats/kittens must test negative for FIV/FeLV. Kittens should be tested at 61 days of age. Cats/kittens that have a treatable medical condition or clear signs of upper respiratory tract infections (URI), alopecia, missing limbs, injury such as puncture wounds or abscesses, etc. may be allowed entry into the Second Chance Animal Rescue program if resources permit. Cats/kittens that have tested positive for FIV/FeLV, have suffered unmanageable injuries/sickness or cats/kittens that show clear signs of any community disease such as calicivirus or rabies, are not eligible for intake.
Dogs
In order to accept dogs/puppies into the Second Chance Animal Rescue program, the physical wellness and behavior of the dogs/pup must be accounted for. All dogs/puppies must have good temperaments that allow average handling with people and our vet staff. Dogs/puppies must be dog friendly (ideally with both males and females) but do not necessarily need to be cat friendly. In rare occurrences, a dog with dog aggression can be welcomed if resources and time permits. Feral dogs, no matter the circumstances, cannot be entered into the program.
Dogs/puppies over the age of 6 months must test negative for heartworms. Dogs/puppies that have a treatable medical condition or alopecia, missing limbs, injury such as puncture wounds or abscesses, etc shall be allowed entry into the Second Chance Animal Rescue program if resources permit. Dogs/puppies that have tested positive for parvo or heartworms, have clear signs of an upper respiratory tract infection (URI), have suffered unmanageable injuries/sickness or dogs/puppies that show clear signs of any community disease such as distemper or rabies, are not eligible for intake.
