Stray Animals & Rehoming Pets

Found Animals

At this time, Second Chance Animal Rescue is not equipped to house strays/lost/found animals, and we do not operate an animal control service.

Where to bring a stray pet / found animal

If you find a pet at large, or need help with a loose animal, please report to your city animal shelter for guidance. Owners will be looking at their city shelters for their pets… do NOT displace animals to other shelters as they may never be reunited. Many people without access to the internet, or those who are unfamiliar with social media depend on their shelters to be reunited with their beloved pet

Check for multiple types of identification

If the animal has identification, contact the owner. Identification comes in many forms, so please check the animal thoroughly for a tag, tattoo or microchip. Many nonprofits, veterinarians, and animal control services, can scan for a microchip too!

Look for an owner

Don’t forget to list the animal as “found” on social media, put up flyers at corner gas stations, and at main entrances/cross streets around neighborhoods where it was found. Use a head shot or picture that does not show the collar or under parts that will show gender of the animal. Do NOT advertise gender and other special markings, traits, etc. Require potential owners to provide this information along with pictures.

Rehoming a Pet

Second Chance Animal Rescue is dedicated to saving animals from euthanasia lists across Oklahoma. While we currently cannot accept animals from the public due to limited resources, we are pleased to offer our Pet Connect program, which helps individuals rehome their pets.

If you're looking to find a new home for a pet, consider these steps:

  • Make sure you know the pet will get along with smaller dogs, kids, and cats before placing.

  • Notify your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers, they may be able to help you find a new home for your pet.

  • Ask potential adopters for a vet reference and call their vet to verify that they are responsible pet owners.

  • Visit our additional shelters & rescues resources in Oklahoma.
