Each year, we give over 800 animals a second chance at life.

Second Chance Animal Rescue is a nonprofit committed to the care, rescue, and wellbeing of animals in Oklahoma. We achieve our mission and pursue our vision through animal adoption and enrichment, spaying/neutering practices, and community education. Second Chance Animal Rescue saves over 800 animals each year through the work of our dedicated staff and the aid of our incredible foster network. Additionally, we offer vaccine clinics, host volunteer opportunities, conduct speaking engagements, and initiate partnerships with other impactful organizations to improve the lives of companion animals and our community.

Our organization began in the late 1980s. At our inception, we were run by a small but enthusiastic group of volunteers and operated out of an old farmhouse on the east side of Norman. During that time, our first adoption event took place at the Kinko’s on the corner of Boyd and Jenkins and resulted in the adoption of 47 of the 50 animals taken directly from the Norman Animal Shelter.

Second Chance Animal Rescue was officially incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 1989, and early members proceeded to establish culture that continues to guide us today. Soon thereafter, Second Chance moved to a more suitable location on north Porter, which was our organization’s home until a capital campaign in the late 1990s provided us with the funds to construct the building that houses us today.

We are honored to carry on the mission of our early founders and continue their dream of giving animals in our community a second chance at life.
