Featured Dogs

Hi, my name is Winona. I'm pretty sure I'm a small dog in a big dog's body. I think that because I love to be a lap dog. I wont be on your lap for long though, because I'm an 8 month old pup and sitting isn't in my nature, yet. I haven't made any furry friends yet, because I'm big, bulky and active, very active.  I may have to be the only animal in my furever home. I haven't given up hope of finding the perfect furry friend though. Come visit me. Let's take a walk and get aquainted. Bring the family.

Featured Cat

To be or not to be? That is the question.  Whether tis nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of man or just find a good hiding place. Hi, my name is Shakespurr. The opening lines are my mantra: the hiding place part, especially. You look up shy in the dictionary and there is my picture. I do eat and drink - when no one is watching. I use the litter box - again, when no one is looking. I will let you pick me up and rub my ears and neck - if you can find me. I told you I'm shy. I may come out and wander when I get comfortable at a home, but I've never been in a place long enough to make me feel comfortable. So, if you're looking for a silent partner, I may be the purrfect orange and fluffy, 2 year old feline for you.

Get Involved

Second Chance could not do what it does without the help of our volunteers!  Although our staff is dedicated and knowledgeable, extra helping hands and hearts are necessary to accomplish the important work in which we are involved.  Every activity you perform, whether directly handling the animals or not, improves the quality of their lives and decreases the length of their stay in our program

Thank You To All That Volunteer

We need volunteers at the shelter: walking the dogs, socializing the cats, cleaning, sweeping and mopping, doing laundry, making adoption packets, doing light office work, and helping with customer service.

We need volunteers at events: at adoption clinics @ Petsmart and Petco, and at major adoption and community outreach events.

Our volunteers are 18 and older, however volunteers under the age of 18 are welcome with parent or guardian on site.

GROUPS: If you are looking to sign up a group of 5 or more people, you will have to come as a group before we open or after we close. On the days that we are closed for business, as a group, you can come anytime as long as the group is signed up on the calender.

When your interested in volunteering at Second Chance you will have to sign up on our calender at our facility. We can't accomodate more than 5 volunteers at a time during business hours. You can also call and set up a time and date over the phone.

To become a Second Chance volunteer, download the application by clicking the link below and bringing by the shelter. Love Dogs, Cats or Both? Want to Volunteer at Second Chance? Volunteers Under 18 years will need Adult Supervision & Liability Waiver Form

Foster Home

Second Chance is always seeking new foster homes for our dogs and cats. You provide a loving home for your foster animal and we provide the supplies and vet care until they are adopted. We review foster home applications and match you with an animal that would be a good fit for your home. If you are interested in fostering a pet from Second Chance please download the Foster Home Survey and return it to us via mail, fax, or email and someone will get back with you as soon as possible to further explain the program. And please remember, fostering a cat or dog isn't a lifetime commitment. It's a commitment to saving a life!
